Armed Forces Military Museum - Largo, FL
This museum was a new discovery to us, and what a terrific find!! They have an amazing collection of restored and running vehicles, rare and unique artifacts and the collection is presented magnificently!
The Museum is one of the finest we have seen and is a one of our favorites!
We had the good fortune of being shown around by Frank Correa, the museum's resident historian. He shared with us many fascinating stories and details regarding the collection. One of the most interesting displays contains a number of artifacts from Leonard T. "Max" Schroeder Jr, the first US soldier ashore on D-Day! Wow!
If you are in the Tampa, FL area, you MUST visit this museum. If you aren't in the area, make a special trip - it is worth every minute! We highly recommend a visit!
Photos from 10/21/11 & 4/17/14.
We've added photos from the 2014 visit to the end of the gallery - Mostly detail photos of the cupola on the M4A3 Sherman. According to JoeD from the ComCentral AFV Forum, the cupola is an experimental AAI model 108 cupola - very rare and never used on Shermans as it was a post war development. I notified Frank Correa via phone and email with the details as I know the museum is doing its best to be historically accurate.
